  THE HISTORY OF THE AFE GROUP COMPANIES

1967:
Establishment of the Aciéries et Fonderies de l'Est by the merger of two family-owned businesses founded in 1918 and conducting the same foundry activity: steel castings

- Aciéries et Fonderies du Doubs, in Sainte-Suzanne (Doubs, France)
- Maître et Cie, in Colombier-Fontaine (Doubs, France)

1976:
Establishment of the Armoricaine de Fonderie le Châtelet company - AFC - in Redon (Ile-et-Vilaine, France), which took over the struggling Fonderies du Châtelet. The DBA company acquired a 49% stake in the firm, which was later bought up by AFE.

1983 - September:
Acquisition of the Mancelle de Fonderie company - SMF - located in Arnage near Le Mans (Sarthe, France).

1984 - June:
Acquisition of Fonderies et Aciéries Electriques de Feurs located in Feurs (Loire, France), which has since become Feursmétal.

1987 - May:
Listing of AFE on the Second Market of the Paris Stock Exchange (France).

1989 - January:
Establishment of FWF through the transfer of the Sainte-Suzanne facility assets (Doubs, France).

1989 - May:
Aciéries et Fonderies de l'Est became AFE and established its Head Office in Montrouge (close to the Porte d'Orléans in Paris, France).

1989 - June:
Acquisition of DEMO, the tool & die maker and plastics processor, located in Andilly and in Marines (Val d'Oise, France).

1989 - December:
Acquisition of the Société Mécanique de Précision du Maine company (which has since become Le Segment AB) located in Arnage (Sarthe, France) at the Mancelle de Fonderie facility.

1990 - April:
Acquisition of the Klefisch company located in Hürth (Germany)

1991 - March:
AFE established two wholly-owned Branches:

- AFE Métal, which took over the activities of Feursmetal, FWF, and of SMC
- AFE Technologies, which took over the activities of Mancelle de Fonderie, Le Segment AB, and Klefisch.

1992 - May:
Successful friendly takeover bid by AFE to acquire the Cronite Group, located in the UK at Crewkerne (Somerset) and in the USA (Ohio). These various companies rounded out the Metal and Technologies Branches.

1992 - September:
Establishment of the Feurst subsidiary in Feurs, specialised in the distribution of wearing parts for Earthmoving Equipment.

Establishment of the AFE Plasturgie Branch.

1997 - February:
Establishment of FWF Mexico, a wholly-owned FWF subsidiary, located in Cuauhtémoc (Chihuahua, Mexico).

1997 - September:
Establishment of the Valdi company, an AFE Métal subsidiary specialised in the recycling sector for recovery of coproducts with metallic content.

1999 - March:
Successful friendly takeover bid by the FAP company, a subsidiary of ABN AMRO Capital Investissement, to acquire all AFE shares followed by a Public Withdrawal Offer.

1999 - September:
Establishment of the Valdi Le Palais company, a subsidiary of Valdi, which took over the production plant operated by the CGEP and Pechiney companies in Palais-sur-Vienne (near Limoges, France).

2000 - October:
Establishment of the AFE Foundry company, a subsidiary of AFE Métal, for steel component finishing in Martin (Slovakia).

2001 - March:
AFE sold its AFE Levage branch.

2001 - September:
Establishment of the Demo Plastik company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AFE Plasturgie, via the buyout of industrial production facilities in Bursa (Turkey).

2002 - June:
Establishment of the Demo Autoplast company, a wholly-owned AFE Plasturgie subsidiary, by the buyout of industrial production facilities in Celakovice (near Prague, Czech Republic).

2003 - March:
AFE Plasturgie sold its Tableaux de Commandes division.

2004 - April:
AFE sold the AFE Carrosserie branch.

2004 - May:
Acquisition of all FAP shares by the CapSag company, a subsidiary of the Sagard investment fund.

2005 - January:
Establishment of the Environment Branch, through the transfer of VALDI, an AFE Métal subsidiary.

2005 - March:
Acquisition by AFE Technologies of the Czech company Belog Guss located in Brno.

2005 - October:
Acquisition by AFE Plasturgie of the Mexican company Technimark located in Chihuahua.
Transfer of the activities of Cronite Precision Castings (CPC) into Cronite Castings Ltd (CCL).

2006 - May:
Acquisition from Sagard of all the CapSag shares by a pool of investors including the Management Board, the investment fund Euromezzanine and some French family investors.

2006 - September:
Transfer of the AFC company to the group La Fonte Ardennaise (LFA).

2007 - July:
AFE Cronite Technologies established a greenfield plant in Wuhan, China, manufacturing assemblies for heat treatment furnaces.

2007 - December:
AFE Cronite Technologies opened a greenfield plant in Monterrey (state of Nuevo León in Mexico) for the manufacture of heat treatment oven assemblies for various American markets.

2008 - July:
AFE Cronite Technologies purchased the assets of the Scomark Engineering Ltd company based in the United Kingdom (plants of Sheffield, Yorkshire and Swadlincote, Derbyshire) specializing in refractory steel pipes production for the chemical and petrochemical industries.

2009 - January:
AFE Métal entered China by purchasing the assets of the Chinese company XHC and created a sand foundry in Xuzhou (Jiangsu Province): AFE METAL CASTINGS XUZHOU.

2010 - January:
AFE sold its VALDI branch (recycling petroleum catalysts, dry cells and storage batteries, and other co-products with high metal contents) with French plants in Feurs and Palais sur Vienne.
